The Vox AC50 is the big brother of the legendary Vox AC30 and was specifically designed for live guitarists who require more power, headroom and drive. While the AC30 is known for its clear, compact and silky tube sound, the AC50 offers more power, a tighter bass range and a stronger midrange focus, making it one of the best British amplifiers for rock, blues and early hard rock sounds.
The AC50 was originally introduced in the early 1960s, when British bands played on larger stages and needed more power to stand out against loud drums and bass amps. Bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who in particular began using the AC50 because it offered better projection and a defined, powerful sound.
Unlike the AC30, which uses EL84 tubes, the AC50 features a Class AB power amp with two EL34 tubes, which provides more volume, a tighter attack, and greater dynamic headroom. This makes it particularly suitable for live stages and larger venues where more headroom is required.
The AC50 remains clear and articulate even at high volumes, making it perfect for high-impact sounds and powerful rhythm guitars. Its 3-band equalizer (Bass, Middle, Treble) allows for fine tuning of the tone.
